Launch of The Wicked Wood

Saturday 26th May 2012

Well, we've had the book launch! What a great day it was at our favourite independent bookshop, Burway Books in Church Stretton, but so tiring: will have to get in more practice and build up stamina before we hit the same heights as J K Rowling!

Our first customer was Hilary's junior school teacher, Ralph Oldham, who had arrived early especially to get the first copy. A steady succession of people followed, and then one of Hilary's best friends from Shrewsbury High School days, Janine Hogan, turned up - all the way from Henley-on-Thames. Not only had she made a special journey to buy three copies of the book, but her lovely hubby Martin had postponed a business trip to Oman so she could be there. A very emotional moment that will live with us for a long time. Followed swiftly by another emotional moment when two huge bouquets of flowers arrived from Hilary's hubby, Bob.

After another flurry of customers we had a lovely surprise when Andy from Gomer Press arrived with partner Julie and a bottle of wine for each of us. A 200 mile round trip: thanks Andy. Mark and Tim from Midland Paranormal Investigations in the West Midlands also arrived - it's great that people travelled so far for our special day. And it was lovely to see so many local people coming in to buy the book too whether they knew us or not.

We had a wonderful time chatting to people about the book, sharing a Bucks Fizz or two, and signing lots of copies. All in all we sold 42 copies at the launch, with another 11 going to people who couldn't make it on the day - and more are still coming in. We've had a great response from friends, family and online orders too, taking us over the 80 mark in total. If you add in copies to stockists (which are selling fast), well, we're 120+ so to say we're thrilled is an understatement.

Thanks so much to everyone who turned up and bought a copy or wished us well. And thanks also to Ros at Burway Books for letting us launch our book there and for all her support. Now we just need to get the book out to the rest of the world!
